Sabri Al Qurashi, a citizen of Yemen, spent more than 12 years at Guantánamo before being transferred to Kazakhstan. Although most of his works are peaceful landscapes, he also produced images with unusually direct depictions of life at Guantánamo and political allusions, such as a painting of the Statue of Liberty wearing detainee constraints.
